William Roy Mock

William Roy Mock is the great-great grandson of Benjamin H. Walker; noted abolitionist, recorded in the History of Bedford County, Pennsylvania. Mock is a retired high school teacher and accomplished county historian. He presently lives on the historical site of the original Walker homestead, which dates back to 1794. His research entails over three decades of investigating the family’s involvement, along with others, involving the Underground Railroad; both on location in Saint Clair Township and surrounding areas.  His  book, The Last Station: Underground Railroad of Quaker Corner, contains numerous on-site photos, along with sketched illustrations, which greatly enhance the connotation of the informational text. The work includes footnotes, index, and bibliography.

Mock’s investigative efforts resulted in the distinction of acquiring the first U.G.R.R. historical marker (Benjamin Walker Homestead) in Bedford County, Pennsylvania (2006); approved by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission.

He is a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion. He is currently a member of the Fort Bedford Honor guard, as well as, the Bedford County Vietnam Veterans Association. His written works highly reflect patriotism, and are primarily historical non-fiction and include documented sources.

His most recent book, A Final Salute: Gloves On/ Safety Off, depicts the history of the Fort Bedford Honor Guard of Bedford County, PA. This elite unit is considered to be one of the oldest veteran volunteer honor guards in the nation, based upon composition and the number of continuous years in operation, since its inception in June of 1946.  The work contains numerous highly selective photos which greatly enhance the connotation of the informational text, based upon documentation.
